The Autastics (Autistics United Together And Showing They Indeed Can Succeed) is a group for adults on the autism spectrum, centered in the San Francisco California Bay Area. The Autastics holds regular monthly meetings in or near San Francisco, with every third or so meeting in the San Jose, California, area. We also go on regular outings (hikes, etc.) together. Click here for a calendar of our events. There are no fees for attending, but we appreciate help with expenses like refreshments and mailings.
AASCEND's annual conference celebrating International Asperger's Year was a great success, representing the first nationwide summit of adult peer-centered autism support groups, including representatives of AASCEND, AUTASTICS, GRASP, AANE, ANI, AAGW, AGUA, Portland ASSG, Asperger's Society, and others. Congratulations all! See AASCEND.net for details. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Paul Nussbaum, a long-time member of the Autastics, successfully led a ski expedition across the Sierra in winter 2006 as a means to publicize the needs (and abilities!) of adults on the autism spectrum, and to raise funds for a California summer camp for young people on the autism spectrum. Check here for details and a live record of the Conquering Heights Expedition!~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The Autastics participated in a research study on job supports and the results are now out in the Journal of Vocational Rehabilitation (Vol.18 No.3).
